Combloux is THE easiest ski resort to drive to from England or from Geneva and has fast road access to several other resorts. The 2017 season runs from Dec 17th to Apr 2nd. There are two lift pass areas which we will describe below. Our local area, "Portes du Mont Blanc" is part of the wider "Evasion Mont Blanc". It is a large area, 445 kms of pistes, but there is a zoomable map covering it all.
However, we have produced sections of the map to aid description...
About 250 yards from our apartments, there is a free drag lift up to 'la Cry', the ski base for access to this local area. If you have young kids in tow, you can drive up 800m and park near the pistes. Overnight, you can leave kit in the apartment ski lockers, locked in your car, or in a locker at our friendly Marin Sports shop. In fact, we usually park beside the piste and ski down to a lift.
The pass covers 100 km of pistes - 31 lifts and 63 runs - in the area between Combloux, Megeve Jaillet, and Giettaz; and a separate area at Cordon. This is plenty of variety for all grades of skier, and with beautiful views, tree lined pistes, two snow parks, 16 friendly restaurants, a good ski school and superb ski creche - all of which makes it ideal for short breaks and family holidays. See description and maps of ski areas.
The best news is that this pass only costs 35€ per day (28€ child); or 171€ (137€) for 6 days (see tarifs).
Under 5s are free and beginners can buy a special 12€ day pass that only covers certain lifts.
the following is being updated ...
This pass includes Megève and St Gervais (see map), and les Contamines (see map), as well as the PMB area. It is a vast area, best accessed by driving to one of six lifts serving different sectors. Alternatively take a free ski-bus to the Princesse lift on the outskirts of Combloux or ski down to Jailletand take a free ski-shuttle across Megève. The pass costs 35% more than Combloux which still compares favourably with other major resorts because it covers 450km of pistes - 76 lifts serving 157 runs.
Other resorts nearby : We recommend you consider day trips to several other resorts that are within one hour by car: Praz-sur-Arly and other Diamant Vert resorts (see map); Chamonix and les Houches (see maps); Flaine (see map); Morzine or Avoriaz (see maps).
Ski school : You may progress faster, save money, and get more enjoyment from a combination of ski guiding, private lessons and skiing with a friendly group. We are happy to discuss individual preferences and may be able to join you on the slopes.
Ski and boot hire : Our guests get preferential treatment at Marin Sports. 6 days good quality ski and boot hire would cost about 120€, or 78€ for under 16s. (more)
Control your holiday costs : Accommodation accounts for less than 20% of the total cost of a skiing holiday, but where and when you stay affects the cost of travel, food and drink, ski passes etc. We have created a ready reckoner to help you plan.
