What is SCRAM?

SCRAM was established on June 4th 2007 as an informal service to share knowledge and opinion between residents who were fed up with ongoing proposals for the RAF Staff College.
SCRAM connects individuals so that they:

• are informed of current proposals affecting the site
are alerted for timely response within the planning process
save considerable time and effort understanding plans
• can be confident their objections will make a difference

Our role is communications by a few people who are able to give time to raising awareness: knocking on doors, distributing posters, studying plans and talking to the planning office, talking to newspapers, and importantly using IT to make information more accessible and faster.

• We liase with residents groups who are well informed and fast off the mark with their own protests, and alert others who may not have been notified.
• We want to raise awareness and encourage individuals that their views can contribute to a powerful public voice saying "enough is enough" (scram).
• Bracknell Forest Borough Council writes to notify residents who in their opinion are significantly affected by new proposals, but this alone does not ensure you, or we will have early notice of everything that we find significant. So please contact SCRAM if you have relevant news.
• Proposal drawings are published on the council's web site but understanding can require technical knowledge and experience. Therefore we publish our own interpretation and notes on this website.
• Some of the plans have been scanned in and are very slow to download. Therefore we reprocess selected documents to make access hundreds of times as fast!
• Fast communications is important so we publish links on this website and encourage the use of email between residents and the use of online access or email for submitting comments.
• When the heat is on we co-ordinate 3rd party contribution to appeals to ensure effective coverage.

This is not an "orchestrated campaign". SCRAM is a collective name and a central voice for the large number of local residents who actively oppose development of the Staff College site beyond what has already been agreed. There is no "party line" but we do try to coordinate and give weight to which of many concerns are most relevant to specific proposals.

SCRAM covers a wide area. We do not have "members" as such and do not publish names and addresses but our register of supporters and active objectors includes hundreds of people throughout Bracknell and further afield.
